My Esteemed Colleague Volume I

I work with a hypochondriac. Well, she's either a hypochondriac or a medical marvel.

Since I began working with her in April of 2008, she has managed to solve her lifelong problem of always being cold by taking an iron pill. The best part of that being that it happened almost before her body had had a chance to actually absorb the iron. Years and years of always being cold and suddenly a cure. I can't believe she waited for 60+ years to purchase an over-the-counter drug that would forever change her life!

Her blood pressure has, at times, dropped to a level that, according to my stepmother (a nurse), would kill most people yet she was able to stay alive and actually continue to work.

I have seen sore throats, fevers, migraines, upset stomachs, and possible tumors dissipate within thirty minutes of when they were mentioned with no help from any drugs.

A couple of weeks ago, she stood up and bumped her head in the attic. I don't doubt that that completely killed and really sucked, but she wanted me to believe that they were asking her about this 'huge lump' on the top of her head at the local bank and nothing was visible to the naked eye. When I suggested the possible need for an MRI the 'huge lump' was never mentioned again.

Last week her sugar suddenly dropped but a piece of candy later, she was back to normal. Either she is a closet hypoglycemic or it was an isolated incident because it hasn't happened before or since.

Monday she slammed her finger in the filing cabinet drawer and apparently fractured it in the process. Most people with a broken finger would be somewhat crippled, but not her! She was still able to completely bend it and it was no more or less swollen than her other fingers. Her friends at the local bank were again concerned for her health due to the severe bruising and swelling that must have occurred on the way to the bank and miraculously healed upon her return.

As much of an asset as she is to our business I'm beginning to think that society would be better served having her under constant observation. Her day-to-day happenings could supply a medical newsletter with years of jaw-dropping material.

  1. I read an article about people like her recently. My sister sent it to me because she said it was describing my life! And believe it or not, I'm the most accident prone--always catch any bug going around person my friends and family know. And it's annoying to others as well as myself. :)

The article: Apparently there was a study done on accident/sick prone people. The whys and hows of it. Basically, I would be sad if our insurance company got a hold of the science behind my clumsiness.

I wish I had the article it was just as great of a laugh as this blog!

p.s. I've learned to laugh at myself... that's the only way to deal with how clumsy and comical I am.
